Sub section 45-46 again is too widely drafted. But may help in the fight against corruption. Section 47: This provision is outrageous. It is criminalizing those who accept gifts from persons they have helped in the past and who have simply come back to say thank you with a card after the event has been completed. The sad part about this section in the bill is that the type of gift is not mentioned, defined or categorized

Sierra Leone’s Transport and Aviation Minister, Kemoh Sesay, Foreign minister Zainab Bangura and Information Minister Ibrahim Kargbo have all been commenting on an incident that has overshadowed all government business in Freetown in the last couple of days with some members of the local press putting senior government officials on trial, while acting as prosecution, jury and judge at the same time. Some have even condemned whole communities like the inhabitants of Port Loko town (located a few miles from Lungi international airport) to which some of the people involved had fled

Listening to the BBC’s Umaru Fofanah Thursday July 10, 2008 on the President’s presumptive move to ‘offload’ some members of the cabinet whom he thinks are excess baggage’s and in his words "to stabilize the vessel," I could not help but chuckle. In the deeper bottom of my heart, I have known (just like many more) all along that the caliber of men and women the President has appointed and continues to draft actualize his vision was designed to fumble, and not deliver the goodies many were hoping a regime change will provide
Financial Institutions And Money Laundering Sierra Leone
BUSINESS WORLD

Given the current cocaine saga in the country, the public needs to understand how people launder money so that they can identify money laundering and know how to help prevent it. Money laundering is the practice of engaging in financial transactions in order to conceal the identity, source, and/or destination of money, and is a main operation of the underground economy. Money is "laundered" to conceal illegal activity, including the crimes that generate the money itself, such as drug trafficking. Money laundering conceals the source of illegal proceeds so that the money can be used without detection of its criminal source

Something To Think About

The Sierra Leonean reaction to the cocaine fiasco has been astounding. But for few negative commentaries, most Sierra Leoneans have responded patriotically. What setout to be a drug smuggling deal from Venezuela through Sierra Leone, has become a setup for national unity against illegal drugs and corruption. One fact that cannot be denied is that the territorial rights of Sierra Leone were violated

Cocaine trade, the world all over is a risky one, but lucrative and profitable. It involves big men and women in societies, mostly very close to the seat of power. What is uncontestable is the fact that cocaine trade cannot be conducted in any country without the knowledge of those individuals responsible for the security of the state. It is like a secret society, where only members of the society know the activities, ceremonies and benefits that can be derived from the society

The weaknesses of the Import Substitution Industrialization (ISI) Policy adopted by many developing countries began to surface in the early 1970s. By the mid-1970s, strategies of modernization and technology transfer had clearly failed to initiate self-sustained processes of development. Government intervention and centralized planning as demanded by the ISI policy had spurred economic disaster, rather than growth in Sierra Leone and indeed in many African countries.
